There are moments while traveling that truly take my breath away. I often find myself lost in such moments, trying to capture the beauty of nature.

We’ve heard it said that the Earth is spherical—a theory supported by science and geographers. But when you travel through certain parts of Nigeria and see uneven landscapes, with valleys, hills, and mountains, it can feel like a contradiction to that idea.

These uneven lands—especially the hills and mountains—are mostly found in the northern parts of Nigeria, though some can also be seen in the south. For travelers, these features are more than just landmarks. They are sources of wonder, resources, and sometimes even places of settlement.

When visiting mountainous regions, it’s not uncommon to see people staring up at the peaks in awe. Some feel the urge to climb to the top to see how the world looks from above and compare the view with what lies below. Films have captured scenes of hikers and mountain climbers scaling these heights for recreation. Others are drawn to the herbs and plants that grow only in these areas, known for their rarity and medicinal value.

In my next post, I’ll share more about the Nigerian states that have these mountains, along with the mineral deposits found there.

Take a look at the beautiful video clips capturing the charm of these mountainous areas in Kogi states.
